ORTHODOX CHAPEL

PICTURES OF THE CONSECRATED CHAPEL AS CURRENTLY USED BY THE CHRISTIAN ORTHODOX CHURCH

This chapel although currently used by the orthodox church will need some renovation works carried out on it. Before works can be carried out the church will have to move out.  It was intended that they would move into the nonconformist chapel for an interim period while restoration works took place. This is not now going to be possible as talks held between the Project Board set up to oversee the completion of the project and the councils Property Services Department which have highlighted that when the award is issued it would prove best value for the two chapels to be restored at the same time, as to carry out works on then individually would prove to costly.

The councils Bereavement Services Section have said that they will find appropriate accommodation  for the church over the restoration period  allowing for  orthodox church to hold services of worship.  It is very  likely  that the chapel in Binstead cemetery will make an adequate temporary worshiping place.

As can be seen from this collection of photographs this will involve a considerable amount work in temporarily relocating all the religious icons and of related object.

Although the roof to this building is in good condition the tiles will have to be removed to allow a thermal insulation barrier to be installed and it is envisaged at this stage general maintenance works will be carried out on the rafters.
