When the Lottery Heritage Bid was first applied for, it was not known that on top of this structure there would have been a bell tower. It was only revealed that this had been the case when one of the groups re-searchers stumbled upon a picture whilst researching something completely different to do with the cemetery and subsequently this was reported to the HLF Project Board who decided it was such a prominent feature that they should include it in their restoration plans.
